About Me

Student | Coding | Building | Hackathons

I am a highly motivated student deeply interested in STEM. Extremely dedicated and driven, I strive to effectively lead and collaborate on projects with others.

Hi, I am Vedant Bahadur, UWCSEA Dover Class of '23, Singapore. I love using emerging fields to design and implement innovative solutions to pressing issues. From a young age, I began experimenting with scratch, before moving on to Arduino, before going into full-stack development, ML and cheminformatics. I have created diverse projects ranging from renewable energy, to supporting the elderly and digital platforms. I have won prizes at hackathons (Winner, Idea Hacks 2016 and 2017, Winner Codeathon 2018, 2nd Place YouthHacks 2019, and semi-finalist at AWS Build-On), and have been part of the Intel Young Leaders Program. This further led me to represent Intel at a lot of their showcases in Singapore and represent the Ideas Hub at the UWCSEA Donor Event.

My projects always begin with a problem and the user's needs, often focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Recently, I have worked with Tata Consultancy Services to create an elderly marketplace for skills and jobs called S-Lab, including a start-up called GrowLah which allows the elderly to set up and maintain gardening products that we sell including hydroponic systems. Using Flutter, firebase, and ESP32s (IOT), I created an app that allows users to select their favourite system, allowing them to view it in their space, and use other functions like scanning plants or flowers to identify and learn about them, news feeds and video guides, and monitoring existing systems. This creates employment for the elderly as they get paid to set up and maintain these systems, creating greater community connections, and encouraging a sustainable lifestyle.

More recently, I launched my start-up: Lumenol: a web & mobile platform for students and clubs to showcase their multimedia creations, portfolios and magazines. After hearing from friends and clubs that they were: 1. Struggling to get their work seen by the vast student body at UWC 2. Spending too much time trying to create their personal websites (like this one) and 3. Wasting time fundraising for expensive, unsustainable physical paperback magazines, I wanted to create a solution. I'm proud to call Lumenol a success, with 16K+ web views, reaching #35 on the Apple App Store for education, and constantly growing with user ideas and feedback.

My Values

The school I attended here in Singapore, United World College SEA, values “academic achievement, service to others, environmental stewardship, teamwork and leadership”. This emphasis on service and environmental stewardship has massively shaped my behaviours and values. One of the primary drivers I think of whenever I begin a new project is the user: Does this benefit my community? Does it empower the undersupported? Does it aim for equality? This has led me to create projects that all support my community, regardless of whether that may be the elderly, students or the underprivileged.
